A typical day at Kindy
We aim to create an inviting and engaging environment where the children are able to explore, play and learn.
When children arrive at Kindy they should put their own bags away and pop their lunch box and drink bottle by the kitchen. Parents sign children in and out of Kindy on the sheet provided at the entrance.
Generally children can choose to play inside or outside through much of the day. Teachers observe children’s play, interact and support their learning throughout the day.
There are several 'mat time' sessions during the day which explore learning opportunities that originate from the children's interests. Teachers and children may read stories, sing songs, discuss topics of interest, give a 'show and tell', or share the children’s portfolios.
A typical Kindy day might look like this:
8.30 - 8.45am Children arrive at Kaurilands Kindergarten. Children are encouraged to sign their name, put their bags away and put their lunch items on the shelf. Free play.
10.00 - 10.20am approximately First morning mat time. Followed by free play.
Rolling morning tea all morning. Children are encouraged to identify their body's need for food and drink.
11.20am Morning tidy-up time; morning children pack bags ready to go home.
11.30am Second morning mat time.
11.45am Morning session ends. Full day children eat lunch and choose where to play.
12.30pm Afternoon session begins; free play.
2.00pm approximately First afternoon mat time.
Rolling afternoon tea all session. Children are encouraged to identify their body's need for food and drink.
3.15pm Afternoon tidy-up time; children pack bags ready to go home.
3.20pm Second afternoon mat time.
3.30pm Afternoon session ends.
