What do I learn at Kindy?

As an Early Childhood Education Centre we are dedicated to teaching and growing strong capable and robust children who will be ready to flourish at school.

Literacy: many activities at kindy encompass literacy.

  • Children learn to recognise their name and the letters in their name.
  • Each child has a special named stone in a tray which they find when they arrive at Kindy each day.
  • Children also have their names on their lunch boxes and drink bottles.
  • Children practise writing their name on their artworks as well.
  • There is a writing desk with pencils and paper where children can practise writing and learn fine motor skills.
  • Children are read to at mat time.

Numeracy: not just adding and subtracting!

  • Cooking activities reading recipes and measuring quantities, counting how many items we need.
  • Count spaces or items required for an activity.
  • Match numbers in games recognise numbers.
  • Patterning puzzles, choosing colours and grouping them.
  • Seriation: finding small buckets up to larger buckets in the sandpit.
  • Measuring volume in water play.

Self Help: we support and encourage self help skills.

  • Opening own lunchbox.
  • Learn how to take of own belongings.
  • Putting shoes on without help.
  • Carrying own bag.
  • Blowing own nose.
  • Dressing ourselves.
  • Learning to know when to ask for help and when something can be done on our own.

Social Skills: one of the most important skills we gain at kindy is social skills.

  • Making friends.
  • Interacting with people.
  • Having new experiences.
  • Resolving conflict.
